In 2006, President Bush designated June as Caribbean American Heritage Month. This action directly acknowledges the influence and contributions that people of Caribbean descent have made in the United States. The infectious rhythms of reggae and calypso, delectable spicy cuisine, and musical accents of the Caribbean have intrigued the world for generations.

Notable individuals of Caribbean-American heritage include former Secretary of State Colin Powell, actress Sheryl Lee Ralph, actress Dawnn Lewis, actor Sidney Potier, and NBA star Kareem Abdul-Jabar.

African Caribbean Television (ACT) fills the void that exists in programming for African and Caribbean nationals living abroad who want to keep abreast of current events back home.
